Jesse McCormick was appointed Second Horn with The Cleveland Orchestra by Maestro Franz Welser-Möst in January 2006. Formerly, Mr. McCormick held the positions of Fourth Horn with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and Second Horn with The Denver Brass. A native of Colorado Springs, Mr. McCormick began horn studies with his mother, Susan McCullough, Instructor of Horn at University of Denver and Sally Ann Wilson of Colorado Springs. Subsequently, Mr. McCormick attended the Juilliard School to study with the late Jerome Ashby of the New York Philharmonic. Mr. McCormick's solo appearances include winner of the Jon Hawkins award at the 1998 International Horn Symposium in Banff, Canada, soloist with The Denver Brass, and soloist with Windworks Wind Ensemble in Cape Town, South Africa. For the past two years, Mr. McCormick has held the position of Horn Lecturer at the Baldwin Wallace College-Conservatory and Cleveland State University.
In July 2008, Mr. McCormick and Ms. McCullough were hosts of the 40th annual International Horn Symposium at University of Denver's Lamont School of Music. Featuring world renowned artists in performances, lectures, and masterclasses, the 40th International Symposium set record attendance of over eight hundred participants. Mr. McCormick has been a clinician at Colleges and Universities throughout the U.S. and was a featured artist at the 2009 South African Horn Symposium in Grahamstown, South Africa. Furthermore, he has had the pleasure of participating in the Festival of the Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy, the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music in Santa Cruz, California under the direction of Marin Alsop, and he has served as faculty at the Kendall Betts Horn Camp, which he attends annually. Mr. McCormick and Ms. McCullough recently released a CD titled "It's All Relative", available on iTunes and www.cdbaby.com. Additionally, Mr. McCormick enjoys skiing and hiking in the Colorado Mountains as often as possible.
